Inadvertent side air bag deployment
Defect Summary
Spartan is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2009 adv, dia, gld, and mtr fire truck cab and chassis vehicles manufactured between january 16, 2006 and august 10, 2009 and equipped with the rolltek supplemental side restraint system. the side air bags associated with the supplemental restraint system may inadvertently deploy due to fluid intrusion into the control modules.
Safety Consequence
Inadvertent deployment of the air bag could result in injury to out of position occupants and possibly result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective Action
Spartan is working with the vehicle manufactures to identify vehicles that may contain the defect. the affected vehicles will be repaired by spartan free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or about october 5, 2009. owners may contact their vehicle manufacturer or spartan chassis toll-free at 1-800-543-5008.
